Pig'n Whistle History

When the Pig’n Whistle first opened it’s doors in the United States in the early 1900’s, the name had already been synonymous with Good times and Great Food with the first location opening in Merry ole’ England in 1805. By the time the doors opened in Georgia in 1928 the Pig’n Whistle was destined to become one of Americas iconic landmarks and noted for making history on more than one occasion.

In, 1928 with much enthusiasm and anticipation the Pig’n Whistle opened its doors in Georgia. Locations could be found from Atlanta to Jacksonville Florida with the most notable location being in Macon Georgia.

In the 1940’s and 50’s if you were fortunate enough while visiting the historic landmark you may have been served by some of Macon’s most notable personalities such as Little Richard and Otis Redding who worked as car hops before they began performing and making records. Blind Willie McTell even worked at the Pig'n Whistle in Atlanta while writing some of his most notable songs!

Many others have also given the Pig’n Whistle credit as an inspiration to their work. Tennessee Williams who also worked at the Pig’n Whistle in the early days gave credit to the historic landmark by penning some of the first words to his Pulitzer Prize winning drama Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

For more than 200 years now, the Pig’n Whistle has made headline news and has been featured in thousands of articles in nationally recognized magazines and newspapers.
